University of Utah Health Senior Director of Finance - Huntsman Cancer Hospital in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah


University of Utah Health is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Finance to join our senior leadership team at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital!

In order to be considered for this opportunity, eligible candidates for this position must have:

  • 15+ years of direct financial/accounting experience, including at least 10 years of progressive management experience.

  • A completed MBA, MHA or MAcc (CPA also preferred, but not required).

This Senior Director of Finance directs the human resources, customer service and financial management functions of the organization-wide financial management system. In support of the goals and mission of the organization, the incumbent oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury. This position acts as a catalyst between departments, customers, physicians and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service.

Additionally, our incumbant will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing development and consolidation of the Huntsman Cancer Hospital (HCH) annual operating budget, including $500M net revenue, 100 inpatient beds, and over 90 departments and services.

  • Analyzing global volumes, gross & net revenue, FTEs, and non-personnel expenses.

  • Overseeing HCH annual capital budget, including financial analysis of equipment and construction proposals.

  • Acting as financial and accounting resource for HCH managers, directors, and support staff.

  • Leading extensive analysis of material budget variances. Presenting findings and opportunities in monthly financial forum with HCH senior leadership.

  • Providing specialized financial analysis and reporting, including 5-year forecasts of operating/non-operating margin, monthly statistical and graphical analysis of key inpatient and outpatient departments, and financial highlights for University of Utah Health board meetings.

  • Monitoring, analyzing, and guiding institutional allocations or calculations including SAIF, overhead, and contractual adjustment.

  • Collaborating with revenue integrity initiatives and analysis including billing, coding, documentation, and compliance.

  • Advising and assist HCH leadership with strategic planning by developing sophisticated financial, statistical, and operational analyses and metrics with a variety of software and business intelligence tools.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor degree in Finance, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency.

  • Six years of progressive management experience.

Qualifications (Preferred)


  • MBA, MHA, MAcc, or CPA.
